Global Running Day
Across the Rockaway peninsula, folks are gearing up for summer. With warmer temperatures on the horizon, many residents are eager to bring their movement practices outdoors. Many more, however, find themselves wanting to embark on a fitness regime for the first time but lack the knowledge and financial resources to do so.
GoodForm is embarking on multiple new initiatives to address this imbalance and offer quality coaching to those who might not otherwise have access.
One such endeavor is the launch of our new Community Fun Runs– a free, weekly running group for all levels of fitness, led by GoodForm Coach and Personal Trainer John Carucci. Everyone is encouraged to join. The group is not just for our gym members but for the whole of Rockaway!
If you’ve never run before, don’t worry. New runners can expect an open and welcoming community where they’ll receive helpful tips and tricks throughout the session. “Our run club is an inclusive environment,” Carucci says. “The run club is an open space to learn and get better at a sport we all love.” Although the group aims to keep an 11-12 minute mile pace, there’s no pressure to “keep up” at all times. It’s no secret that it takes time to build stamina. Carucci advises taking walking breaks when needed and rejoining the run when ready.
Physically adjusting to the demands of running can be aided in multiple ways. “In between running groups, you should make sure you rest, hydrate, and strength train.” According to Carucci, “A good runner knows how to lift weights.” When they’re ready, fitness newbies should take advantage of the fact that everyone’s first class at GoodForm is free. “If you have never worked out before, then you are in great company.
Everyone starts at the beginning.
In all of our classes, we provide cues and modifications to make sure your form is perfect. Just starting is already a gigantic step in your fitness journey!”
There are multiple class options to choose from and all are accessible for someone brand new to working out. Receiving free guidance when it comes to strength training is invaluable and Carucci our signature BODYCAMP class. “It’s a circuit-style muscular endurance class that provides a safe environment to challenge yourself and lift heavy weights.” Just like the run club, folks are prompted to take breaks when they feel the need. “We say it all the time! This is your workout and if you need to take a break, then that is something you are encouraged to do to get the most out of your workout. It is normal to see newer folks take breaks and that is perfectly ok!”
In addition to the free running club, GoodForm is launching free outdoor group workouts this June. We’re building our offerings out to make sure all people in Rockaway have accessible and affordable workout options so be sure to subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on instagram!
The Community Fun Runs meet every Wednesday at 6pm at GoodForm (8808 Rockaway Blvd).
Our free outdoor fitness classes meet every Saturday at 11:15am. Just like the Fun Runs, we’ll meet at the studio and head outside from there!
