In Her Words: Tai's Perspective on Black History Month

The past year and some change has been an exciting roller coaster of experiences, new heights, emotions and growth for the GOODFORM family. I'm always honored and proud to not only be a part of this community but to also be a leader in it as well! This February for black history month I want to take a moment to applaud you all for not only supporting black business but integrating it into your everyday lives.

As a black woman in the fitness industry all too often we find ourselves being the “only one” , the only black instructor and sometimes the only black body in a room full of like minded folks, who want to improve their physical and mental health through the use of movement and community.

While at times and it can be discouraging we have to tell ourselves to KEEP SHOWING UP and occupying spaces that were not traditionally made for us. This mantra “keep showing up, keep showing up, keep showing up” can be applied to so many under-represented groups; such as women in general, those a part of the LGBTQ+ community, and those a part of the disabled community.

Your support no matter what identifying gender, or race propels us in the direction of not only belonging in these rooms but also towards spearheading them. This black history month I want to lean further in strength, perseverance, unapologetically occupying space, and not just asking but demanding for the titles, positions and opportunities we deserve as qualified as leaders. Not as black leader but leaders PERIOD!

Remember telling a friend, sharing a post, supporting a class or using your platform to collaborate can propel leaders within the black communities in so many powerful ways.

“Keep Showing Up.”
